Siew Mai

i really like siew mai.

when i buy food, i never fail to think of siew mai.

when i don't see siew mai, i feel cold and sad.

siew mai gives me warmth, and when siew mai does that, i feel very loved and happy that siew mai can be there.

when i see siew mai, i cheer up immediately.

no matter how sad or depressed i feel, siew mai can rid me of my sorrow and turn it into happiness.

and when siew mai looks super hot, i feel even happier that i can have siew mai.

i'm not talking about a girl or what.

its really siew mai. HAHAHA

VIETNAM! another heck of a long post

at last i got some of the photos up here. some of these r already on facebook, but what the heck. there were about 2200+ photos in total, i almost wasted my life away trying to decide which to put up. so here goes! hajimete!

a local dish. u pour some kind of sweet chilli sauce into it then mix n eat

on the roads

we asked ws to take all of us. he managed to leave us all struggling for some aperture

Blue River Hotel. Recommended! Just rmb, there's a switch for the heater!

the Vietnam road.
tour guide: "some of u come from countries that drive on the left side of the road, some of u come from countries that drive on the right side of the road. in vietnam, we drive on both sides"

a park. its actually damn happening at night. long range capteh, some funny mass line-dance, badminton, electronic kites... AT NIGHT. LAO JIAT AH

Learning How to Pout

a photo u wouldn't have guessed was taken in vietnam. vietnamese are actually either christian or catholics.

Lamppost!!! and thats not cityhall station or what. its a post office. but still cannot fight our paya lebar one

appreciate if someone knows the actual pronunciation. cuz apparently, unlike romaji, what is spelled is NOTHING like what it is.

inside the Notre Dame.

Who's That Pokemon

Lesson: Learn what is linear perspective and the vanishing point.

hahaha

Pho Bo - beef

these are a whole bunch of vietnam war victims given food n shelter in return for their creative labour. thats not a paintbrush, its a scalpel. those broken pieces are egg shells. damn impressive. the shop next to this work area sells the exquisite masterpieces which upon seeing is still unbelieving

and here we tourists are thinking that the strawy roof is so interesting

somewhere in the jungle... brush the leaves away...

and poof! u have an entrance to the Coooo CChiii Tunner-! (Cu Chi Tunnel) This is probably the Level 3 tunnel. there are level 1, 2 and 3 depending on the cross-sectional area.

i forgot to rotate this... its a vietnamese trap for the americans. that stick is supposed to be a state trooper's leg.

here we are at the entrance to Level 1 Tunnel! this pic was taken at least a minute before i went down. i dont know how hundreds of them chiong down

retarded pictures in the tunnel. like as if it were so comfy

good summore

singlish: the on top one is the below cambera take one, then the below one is the upstair cambera take one

that's a heck of a bomb right behind us.

Agent Orange- Dioxin. the americans just released it all over the country, causing this massive tragedy unescapable by death.

the quintessential scene in vietnam - the confused tourist with two sibeh enthu vietnamese ppl

a closer look at the enthu Vietnamese.

Thuy and Thuy, the super friendly hotel staff who purposely use that name in emails

view of hell from the haven of a cab

waiting for some nice food

we'll never know what it's like in their lives and vice versa...

what childhood means to them...

and what 'future' means to them

here are three tourists waiting to give one of those boat-rowers her monthly pay.

boat rower behind: "knn row liddat might as well dun row"

2 x 3SG vs... (see ws's right hand - using dragonboat style)

1 x officer + 1 x clerk. hahaha

supposedly "better lunch"... ok la it filled our stomachs lah. WAH PIANG EH

stairway to heaven... although in this case walking up that stairway was more like walking away from heaven

a Vietnamese Wedding! thats the entrance to a house... which happens to be along the road so we saw the bride and groom walk along the road (rmb, its a vietnam road) towards the house. apparently vietnam hasn't learnt "glam" yet

dragon! and i dont know what the words mean.

My version of The Son of Man

the One-Pillar Pagoda

Temple of Literature - the world really has it covered by China

soft sleeper train berth - to Lao Cai (chinese pronunciation: lao3 gai1)

two's company,
three's a crowd;
four + 4 x psp 's still company.

our hotel. Shinjirarenai! almost like some 5 star resort. in the mountains summore

we probably crossed one of those.

result of a 2-sec timer - haltingly awkward.

2 x retarded 3SG along the roads of sapa. hahaha

the haunting presence of an empty playground in the midst of the mountains. the carousel horse might have been something before.

never fails wherever i go. there's also one on the underside of the upper deck in a bunk in a camp in Taiwan.

the Cloudyard is really halfway to heaven. now i know why heaven be. because (happiness +freedom +enlightenment = HFE) is directly proportional to height above inhabited land

itsudemo dokodemo motte itte yo.

i keep on imagining that platform suddenly break off and fall off

THAT'S RABBIT MEAT. it's abit like chicken but just less tender.

sapa is really beautiful.

breakfast overlooking wonder.

refer to facebook for an explanation, its quite tedious...
the rightmost lady is Mi, our tour guide. the other two are waiting to take over L and N in Death Note

at the freakin summit!!

one wrong step...

it's actually damn steep. you must be a Sapa woman to go up n down the mountain on slippers

i dont understand, but anyway its an entrance to some village.

ushi! crazy cow just stood across the only walking path. we had to pass it throwing caution to its swishing tail. which apparently was wet n slimy with something that probably just came out of its toot.

another thumbs up! and toes up also! and..... never mind

amazing things u can do with a camera... meet the aborigines!

there are some scenes worth remembering, worth going through every detail again... for me drawing gives me a chance to live or relive it, so every piece is a different experience... so i drew these two while we were nuah-ing in a kfc back in hanoi. just couldn't forget it :D

vietnam was really splendid. i admit i wouldnt want to go back to ho chi minh n hanoi, but i totally didn't regret going those places. and another visit to sapa would definitely be worth it!

i swear i dreamt of sapa when i was on duty last night... just that i dreamt i was in sapa's Disneyland. interpreters please
